A Toast...
To Thought General Mang, and Capt. Emmett Plant of the USS Blackheart NCC-2327, sadly other duties call and they can not attend. Their names will be read among "Honored Missing In Battle" during the honorifics, at the event.
Warriors! Raise raise your tankard in a toast to their Honor!

NuqneH,
Greetings Warriors, as I sit here working I find myself a little enthralled at the dedication of the fans of our beloved Star Trek. As I begin on this glorious journey I ask myself, am I really prepared to put in all this work, time, and effort, then I get a positive email, or replies on various bbs's in response to the event and I am heartened by the posts of encouragement.
As you know the heart and soul of any small Fan run event are the fans. We need your support and input to make these events a success, and repeatable. I need your verbal responses to help keep the event on track, because I am not telepathic, and I don't want to lose money, and faith in the project.
Send your response as to if you intend to attend (or not), asap so we can judge the size to make the event. I am not afraid to downsize the event if I have overextended what is realistic. Having followed up on several other fan run events, I find a common theme after the events, of many not successful because of poor attendance, an overzealous promoter, who in end, had to either cut the days of the event, went deep into personal debt to cover the expenses, mostly to the star power, or sadly had to cancel events all together. And in reading the aftermath post on bulletin boards, I am amazed at how many who were planning to attend the event, most were simply just expecting to just show up, without buying their tickets in advance, leaving the promoters dangling with no idea of how many would be there.
With a little advanced notice you can at least scale up or down accordingly, which would greatly reduce the hit and miss ratio that we are getting with our smaller FanCons. I am luckier than most because I own the venue, but it is still scary to think that if you hire a star talent for $5,000 and the proceeds only amount to say, $2,000 (ouch), everybody gets screwed, the talent walks away angry, the fans walk away angry, and the promoter gets left with the bill, however, with little advanced notice many could have done something to work out some compromises, or simply scaled some things back. All I am saying is, help by either buying your tickets in advance, or at the very least, RSVP.
